AVAS works with urban slum dwellers in the area of housing, land rights, and basic infrastructure facilities. It works with children in slum communities to provide basic education, and creates awareness about their rights and responsibilities. It has adopted 13 ICDS centres and ensures that they provide quality care. It provides reading, writing and numerical skills, and vocational training for school drop-out youth. It has a forum for adolescent girls to voice their needs, address gender issues, and provide alternative opportunities for the future.
